Lotus L block Ford Escort Twincam Cortina Mk2 Elan engine cylinder block (#2)

  

Here is a Lotus L block for the Twincam engine as used in the Elan, +2, Cortina. Rusty, particularly on the rear face, which will need skimming and fully reconditioning. No liners, it is at +040 already and looks like never used, but +060 pistons are available so would clear out fine to that size.

Also this block has the more desirable stronger square main caps, however the rear one, no. 5 is heavily pitted, as is the block bearing area, check pictures. So I would say this block will need line boring, to fit new main caps, upgrading to steel or another set of square cast caps. Existing main caps are the ones from new as I measured the bearing housing and it is 2.265in, standard size I believe.

The engine number with the J prefix suggests in was originally in a Ford Escort Twin cam, or possibly a Lotus Cortina Mk2. Please see my listings for 2 other L blocks and a Twincam engine.
